About Anglin Falls

Anglin Falls is one of those waterfalls that makes you stop and stare. The 60-foot horseshoe-shaped plunge on Anglin Creek is one of the most perfectly formed waterfalls in Kentucky, dropping in a wide arc into a circular pool surrounded by overhanging sandstone. Located within the Berea College Forest in Estill County, it is also one of the least-visited major waterfalls in the state.

The approach trail passes through the Berea College Forest, a remarkable 9,000-acre research and teaching forest maintained by Berea College. The forest is a living laboratory of Appalachian ecology, with extraordinary biodiversity and excellent fall foliage. The combination of wild solitude and exceptional scenery makes Anglin Falls a must-visit for serious Kentucky waterfall hunters.

Trail Description

Access to Anglin Falls requires either a permit through Berea College or following the public access trail from the nearest trailhead. The trail descends through hardwood forest into the Anglin Creek drainage, passing large sandstone boulders along the way.

The falls are reached after a moderate descent into the gorge. The horseshoe shape becomes apparent as you arrive at the viewing area — the water fans out in a perfect arc before plunging into the pool. The circular pool and overhanging rock walls create an almost amphitheater-like setting. Return the same way.

Tips & What to Bring

  • The horseshoe shape photographs beautifully from slightly left of center
