Bell Canyon Falls: A Wasatch Hidden Gem Above Sandy
Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, Salt Lake County
About Bell Canyon Falls
Bell Canyon Falls is one of the Wasatch Front's most rewarding moderate hikes — a 5-mile round trip that climbs 1,000 feet above the Sandy suburb into a rugged granite canyon with dramatic falls at the end. The trail passes Bell Canyon Reservoir before climbing into the upper canyon where the falls drop from a granite lip into a narrow slot.
The views of the Salt Lake Valley from the canyon trail are spectacular — the urban sprawl gives way to stunning mountain terrain within minutes of the trailhead. The upper canyon is narrow and cool even on hot summer days. This is a beloved local hike that sees moderate crowds on weekends but feels genuinely wild in the upper sections.

Trail Description
From the Bell Canyon trailhead off Little Cottonwood Road in Sandy, follow the trail into the Wasatch foothills. The trail climbs steadily through oak brush and pine to Bell Canyon Reservoir at the 1.5-mile mark.
Beyond the reservoir the trail continues up the canyon into increasingly dramatic granite terrain. The falls are reached at 2.5 miles — a vigorous cascade dropping into the slot canyon below. Return via the same trail.
