Donut Falls: A Hole-in-the-Rock Waterfall in Big Cottonwood Canyon
Big Cottonwood Canyon, Salt Lake County
About Donut Falls
Donut Falls gets its name from its most remarkable feature: the creek pours through a natural hole in a large boulder before spilling down into the pool below — creating a donut shape of rock with water rushing through the center. It is one of the most unique waterfall experiences in Utah, and the short, relatively flat trail makes it accessible to families with young children.
Located in Cardiff Fork off Big Cottonwood Canyon in Salt Lake County, the falls are just 30 minutes from downtown Salt Lake City. The surrounding canyon is protected watershed for Salt Lake City's drinking water, which keeps the environment pristine and development-free. Dogs are not permitted in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

Trail Description
From the Jordan Pines trailhead in Cardiff Fork of Big Cottonwood Canyon, follow the trail upstream along the creek through a dense forest of aspen and conifer. The trail is well-maintained and mostly flat.
After 1.5 miles the creek arrives at the head of the fork and the distinctive boulder comes into view. The water pours through the natural hole in a satisfying rush. Scramble carefully up to the top of the boulder for views down through the hole. Return via the same trail.
