Dukes Creek Falls: A 150-Foot Cascade in the Raven Cliffs Wilderness
Chattahoochee National Forest, White County
About Dukes Creek Falls
Dukes Creek Falls drops 150 feet through a wild sandstone gorge on the edge of the Raven Cliffs Wilderness in White County — one of the most dramatically beautiful waterfall settings in Georgia. The falls plunge in two main stages, the lower section a powerful free-drop into a deep pool surrounded by moss-covered canyon walls.
The trail descends steeply into the Dukes Creek gorge through a dense forest of mixed hardwood, hemlock, and rhododendron. The gorge walls are impressive — rising 80-100 feet on both sides and streaked with mineral deposits. This is a demanding trail that rewards hikers with genuine wilderness scenery and a waterfall that few casual visitors ever reach.

Trail Description
From the Dukes Creek Recreation Area trailhead on Richard Russell Scenic Highway (GA-348), follow the trail north into the Raven Cliffs Wilderness. The trail descends steadily into the gorge as the forest transitions to hemlock and rhododendron.
The gorge walls close in dramatically in the final half mile before the falls. The thunder of the water grows louder through the rhododendron. The viewing area at the base of the lower falls delivers the full drama of the 150-foot cascade. Return via the same steep trail.
