Falls of Hills Creek: Three Waterfalls in One Spectacular Trail
Monongahela National Forest, Pocahontas County
About Falls of Hills Creek
The Falls of Hills Creek trail in Pocahontas County, West Virginia packs three major waterfalls into just one mile of hiking. The first falls drops 25 feet, the second drops 45 feet, and the third — the tallest — plunges 63 feet into a mossy canyon. Combined, they create one of the most rewarding waterfall hikes in the entire state.
The trail descends via boardwalk and wooden stairs through a rich cove forest of yellow birch, hemlock, and rhododendron. Spring wildflowers carpet the slopes in April and May. Located just outside Hillsboro in Pocahontas County, the trailhead is a short drive from Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park and the Cranberry Glades.

Trail Description
From the trailhead parking area, follow the paved path as it descends into the Hills Creek drainage. The first falls appears within the first 0.2 miles — a graceful 25-foot curtain over a mossy ledge. The trail continues down wooden stairs to the second falls, a broad 45-foot cascade.
The main event is the third falls, reached after the steepest descent. At 63 feet, it thunders into a deep pool surrounded by hemlock and rhododendron. The boardwalk leads to a viewing platform at the base. Return via the same steep staircase — the uphill climb back earns its 320 feet of gain.
