Franklin Falls: The Easiest and Most Beautiful Hike Near Snoqualmie Pass
Mt Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, King County
About Franklin Falls
Franklin Falls is the most beloved waterfall near Seattle — a 70-foot plunge into a moss-rimmed pool on the South Fork Snoqualmie River, accessible via a flat, paved trail just 50 miles east of the city. The falls are framed by old-growth western red cedar and big-leaf maple, and the approach trail follows the river through a lush Pacific Northwest forest that feels far wilder than the proximity to civilization would suggest.
The falls are a year-round destination — in summer the pool is popular for wading; in winter the cliff face ices over in dramatic formations visible from the viewing area. Fall foliage from the big-leaf maples turns the canyon amber and gold in October. This is one of the most accessible wilderness experiences available to Seattle-area hikers and the perfect first hike for children.
