MT - Glacier NP CDT Section

The Glacier National Park CDT Section follows the Continental Divide through one of the most ecologically intact ecosystems in the lower 48 states, where grizzly bears, wolves, wolverines, and mountain goats roam in healthy populations. This point-to-point route travels through the Going-to-the-Sun corridor and along the Garden Wall, a dramatic arête that separates the Atlantic and Pacific watersheds atop the Continental Divide.

Hikers traverse snowfields that persist through August, cross rushing meltwater streams, and navigate exposed ridgelines where the wind can be fierce. The rugged terrain of the Lewis Range provides a constant dramatic backdrop, with glacially carved cirques and the remnant ice bodies that give the park its name. Wildlife encounters are frequent and hikers are required to carry bear spray. The park permit reservation system limits daily visitors, so advance planning is mandatory. Evening light on the park distinctive red and green argillite rock formations creates extraordinary photographic opportunities. This is grizzly country and proper food storage protocols must be followed strictly throughout the journey.
