Mount Olympus Summit Trail is a premier hiking destination in Salt Lake City, Utah, covering 7.8 miles with 4040ft of elevation gain.
Stats: 7.8 miles, 4040ft gain, Hard. Type: Out-and-Back. Surface: Rock/Dirt. Time: 6-8 hours. Fee: Free. Dogs: Yes. Permit: No.
Wildlife: mule deer, black bears, mountain goats, golden eagles, peregrine falcons.
Best seasons: Early summer through fall; a Salt Lake City icon visible from the entire valley. Mount Olympus at 9,026 feet dominates the central Wasatch skyline above Salt Lake City. The summit requires a Class 3 scramble through a notch — exposed but non-technical — with spectacular views across the valley and Great Salt Lake.
Pack plenty of water — desert and high-altitude trails demand more hydration than you expect. Layers are essential above 10,000 feet.
Leave No Trace: stay on designated trails, pack out all waste, and respect wildlife and other visitors.
