Multnomah Falls: Oregon's Crown Jewel of the Columbia River Gorge
Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, Multnomah County
About Multnomah Falls
Multnomah Falls is Oregon's most visited natural attraction and one of the most iconic waterfalls in the United States. The falls drop 620 feet in two spectacular tiers — the upper tier a thundering 542-foot plunge, the lower tier an additional 69-foot drop — in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area just east of Portland. A stone bridge spanning the narrow gorge between the two tiers provides the classic photographic vantage point.
The Multnomah Falls Lodge at the base dates from 1925 and houses a visitor center and restaurant. The trail to the bridge viewpoint is paved and accessible; the continuation to the top of the falls is a moderately demanding switchback trail with views of the gorge and the Columbia River. The falls run year-round and are spectacular in any season.
