Kings Creek Falls descends through a spectacular volcanic canyon to reach a 30-foot cascade at the base of a sheer basalt wall. The falls are most powerful in late June and July when snowmelt from the high peaks is at full force, sending mist across the canyon floor.

The trail begins in Kings Creek Meadow at 7,400 feet where Clark's nutcrackers and yellow-bellied marmots are common sightings. The path follows the creek downstream past smaller cascades before the canyon walls close in and elevation drops quickly. The final approach requires some boulder hopping and care on wet rock near the falls.

The return climb through the canyon is what catches hikers off guard — gradual enough but sustained. The meadow at the top is an excellent lunch spot with views toward Lassen Peak. Trailhead is at the Kings Creek Picnic Area off Highway 89, approximately 12 miles from the northwest park entrance.
