Mill Creek Falls is the tallest waterfall in Lassen Volcanic National Park at approximately 75 feet, yet it sees far fewer visitors than Bumpass Hell or Lassen Peak. The trail descends through dense mixed conifer forest — white fir, Jeffrey pine, and incense cedar — to a viewpoint where spray keeps the surrounding vegetation permanently lush.

The route follows Mill Creek through increasingly dramatic terrain, passing a forest understory thick with sword ferns and wild ginger. The creek's volcanic origins show in the mineral-tinged coloring and angular andesite boulders punctuating the streambed. American dippers — compact gray birds that walk underwater to feed — inhabit every pool along the route.

The trailhead is near the Southwest Campground, close to the southwest park entrance on Highway 89. The southwest entrance remains accessible year-round, making this one of the few park trails reachable during shoulder seasons. Peak flow runs late June through July.
