Moro Rock Trail

Moro Rock is a massive granite exfoliation dome rising 6,725 feet above sea level in the heart of Sequoia National Park's Giant Forest. The 0.3-mile paved trail spirals around and up the dome via a series of stone staircases, handrail-lined walkways, and carved granite steps constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. The ascent gains 350 feet in a compact distance, threading through narrow granite clefts and emerging on ledges that offer progressively expanding views. The summit affords a 360-degree panorama encompassing the Great Western Divide to the east, the San Joaquin Valley stretching to the west, and the forested ridgelines of the southern Sierra Nevada in all directions. On clear days following winter storms, visibility extends to the Coast Ranges over 100 miles away. Interpretive plaques at the summit identify major peaks and geological features. The route is fully paved and railed but involves sustained steep grades and narrow passages that may challenge visitors with mobility limitations. During summer months, the adjacent Moro Rock parking area fills by mid-morning; the Generals Highway shuttle provides free access from Lodgepole.
