Bristlecone Loop

The Bristlecone Loop Trail begins at Yovimpa Point near the southern tip of Bryce Canyon National Park and winds through a high-elevation forest of ancient bristlecone pines along the Pink Cliffs. Some of the gnarled, wind-sculpted trees on this trail are estimated to be over 1,700 years old, making them among the oldest living organisms in the American Southwest. The trail is compact at just one mile, but offers extraordinary views across the Grand Staircase toward the Kaibab Plateau and, on clear days, into Arizona and New Mexico. Walking among bristlecones is a humbling experience; these trees thrive in harsh, rocky soils where few other plants survive. The Pink Cliffs here glow rose and ivory in morning light, contrasting beautifully with the dark, twisted bark of the pines. A short connector spur leads to the Rainbow Point overlook, the highest accessible viewpoint in the park at roughly 9,100 feet. Wildlife including mule deer and Clark nutcrackers frequent this quiet corner of the park. The loop is accessible to most hikers and serves as a peaceful complement to the crowded amphitheater trails in the northern section of the park.
