About Raven Cliff Falls

Raven Cliff Falls is one of Georgia's most dramatic natural spectacles — a 100-foot waterfall that plunges through a narrow fissure in the quartzite rock face of the Raven Cliffs Wilderness in White County. The creek literally disappears into a crack in the cliff before exploding out the bottom in a roaring plunge. The effect is unlike anything else in the Georgia mountains.

The trail to Raven Cliff Falls follows Dodd Creek upstream through the Raven Cliffs Wilderness, passing through one of the most botanically diverse forest communities in the state. Old hemlocks tower above the trail, and the creek corridor is rich with fern, trillium, and rare wildflowers. This is a demanding but utterly rewarding Georgia mountain experience.

Trail Highlights

  • 100-foot plunge through a dramatic rock fissure — a geological rarity
  • One of the most botanically diverse trail corridors in north Georgia
  • Old-growth hemlock groves along the upper Dodd Creek drainage
  • Located in the federally designated Raven Cliffs Wilderness Area
  • Best viewed from the overlook platform which puts you level with the fissure

Trail Description

From the Raven Cliff Falls trailhead on Richard Russell Scenic Highway (GA-348), follow the trail north along Dodd Creek into the Raven Cliffs Wilderness. The first mile climbs steadily through second-growth hardwood before entering old-growth hemlock territory.

The trail becomes steeper and more rugged in the upper section. At 2.6 miles the overlook platform delivers a full view of the falls pouring through the rock fissure. The water disappears into the crack above and reappears below in a dramatic plunge. Return via the same trail.
