📈 Elevation Profile
In Pickens County, locals refer to Reedy Cove Falls by its more evocative name: the Blue Hole. The waterfall drops 35 feet into a deep pool of striking blue-green clarity — ice cold even in July, and one of the most popular natural swimming spots in the SC Upstate. The 2-mile trail to reach it passes through a mature hardwood forest with mountain views before dropping into the cool creek hollow.
Trail Overview
The trailhead sits off a gravel forest road in the hills north of Pickens. The path initially climbs through an open ridge with views toward Table Rock before descending via switchbacks into the Reedy Cove Creek drainage. The creek corridor is lined with beech trees, ferns, and mountain laurel, and the sound of water becomes audible well before the falls appear around a final bend.
The Falls and Pool
The 35-foot drop is partially hidden behind an overhanging ledge, creating a curtain effect that drenches anyone brave enough to step underneath. The pool is 8–10 feet deep at the base, with water so clear you can see the bottom even in the center. A natural rock slide on the right side of the falls is a local summertime tradition — smooth, fast, and moderately terrifying.
Tips for Your Visit
- Swimming: Bring river shoes — the pool bottom is rocky
- Summer crowds: Arrives early on weekends; the pool gets busy by 11 AM in July
- Trail condition: Wet and muddy in spring; bring gaiters after rain
- No facilities: Pack out all trash; this is informal access
