Snoqualmie Falls: The Most Famous Waterfall in Washington State
Snoqualmie, King County
About Snoqualmie Falls
Snoqualmie Falls is the most visited natural attraction in Washington State — a 268-foot plunge of the Snoqualmie River over a basalt and granite ledge in the foothills east of Seattle. The scale of the falls is remarkable: the spray plume is visible from a mile away, and the thunder of the water carries across the entire town of Snoqualmie below.
The falls are owned and operated by Puget Sound Energy, which generates hydroelectric power from the flow. Two viewing levels are accessible — the upper rim overlook (short walk from the parking lot) and the lower river-level viewpoint (a longer trail descends into the gorge). The Salish Lodge perched above the falls is one of Washington's most iconic hotels.

Trail Description
From the Snoqualmie Falls parking area, follow the paved path to the upper rim overlook. The 268-foot plunge is immediately visible and the scale — and the spray — is impressive.
For the lower viewpoint, follow the trail that descends into the gorge (steeper and unpaved). The view from the bottom looks up at the full height of the falls from the river level. Return via the same descent trail.
Tips & What to Bring
- The upper overlook is free; the lower gorge trail requires a small fee in some seasons

- Spring (March-May) delivers the highest water volume from Cascades snowmelt
- Evening visits can be less crowded than the busy midday peak
