Sol Duc Falls: Olympic Peninsula's Most Beautiful Waterfall
Olympic National Park, Clallam County
About Sol Duc Falls
Sol Duc Falls is the most beautiful waterfall on the Olympic Peninsula — and in a region this spectacular, that is high praise. The Sol Duc River splits into four separate channels that plunge simultaneously into a narrow basalt gorge 50 feet below, the combined roar thundering in the rain forest canyon. A wooden footbridge directly above the falls provides the ideal viewing position.
The approach trail winds through the exceptional old-growth temperate rain forest of Olympic National Park — towering western red cedar, Sitka spruce, and Douglas fir draped in club moss, with fern-carpeted forest floor. This is one of the finest temperate rain forests in the world, and the short hike to the falls is the perfect introduction to the Olympic wilderness.
