Buffalo Point Trail is the shortest and most accessible hike on Antelope Island, climbing a mere 100 feet over half a mile to a prominent rocky overlook with commanding views of the Great Salt Lake and the island's northern terrain. The high point is a favored gathering spot for watching the island's famous bison herd, which frequently grazes the surrounding grasslands and can sometimes be observed at remarkably close range from the safety of the elevated viewpoint.

Antelope Island hosts one of the oldest and largest publicly owned bison herds in the country, descended from a small group introduced to the island in 1893. The herd is managed to a sustainable size through an annual roundup and auction, and the animals roam freely across the island rather than being confined to a specific zone. Watching these massive animals against the backdrop of the glittering Great Salt Lake is one of Utah's most memorable wildlife experiences. The short trail is suitable for all fitness levels and ages, making it an excellent first stop on a park visit. Dogs are not permitted anywhere on the island's trail system. The $15 per vehicle fee covers the causeway toll and park access for the day.
