Indian Creek Trail

The Indian Creek Trail circumnavigates the scenic shoreline of Chicot Lake, a stunning 2,000-acre man-made reservoir in the heart of Cajun Country. The loop trail winds through a magical landscape of bald cypress and water tupelo draped in curtains of Spanish moss, creating an atmosphere unlike anything found elsewhere in the American South. The lake itself is a major destination for bass and crappie fishing, and paddlers frequently share the calm coves visible from the trail.

Elevation change along the route is minimal, making the full six-mile loop accessible to casual hikers. Wooden footbridges and boardwalk sections carry walkers over marshy inlets and provide elevated views into the cypress-tupelo swamp. Wood ducks, great egrets, anhinga, and belted kingfishers are commonly observed along the water's edge. In spring, the forest understory explodes with native wildflowers. The trail is well-marked with colored blazes throughout, and several benches allow visitors to sit and soak in the serene atmosphere of this quintessentially Louisianan landscape.
