Blue Suck Falls Trail follows Wilson Creek upstream through a deeply incised gorge to reach a striking tiered waterfall system whose whimsical name reportedly derives from the sound the water makes as it pulls air through the narrow rock chute at the base of the main drop. The trail begins along the floor of Wilson Creek gorge, where the stream runs cold and clear over sandstone bedrock, supporting one of the most productive native brook trout fisheries in the Allegheny Highlands—the creek's headwater character keeps temperatures below the 68°F threshold that stresses this cold-water species even in midsummer. Eastern hemlock trees overhang the creek corridor in dense curtains, creating the deep shade that maintains the stream's thermal integrity, and their dropped needles slowly acidify the substrate, creating the amber-tinted water characteristic of hemlock streams. The trail climbs steadily as the gorge narrows, with several stream crossings on stepping stones that require care at high water in spring. Blue Suck Falls emerges around a bend in the gorge, dropping in two distinct tiers over layered Tuscarora Quartzite formations. The upper tier spills about twenty feet into a deep plunge pool, while the lower tier fans across a broad rock face in a curtain-like pattern. The surrounding spray zone supports an unusually rich community of mosses and liverworts coating every rock surface.
