The Rock Explorer Trail invites visitors to scramble over and between the elephant-shaped granite boulders that give the park its name. The route winds through the boulder pile via informal scramble paths, requiring hands-and-feet navigation through boulder gaps and over rounded summits. Children particularly enjoy the route's adventurous character. The salmon-pink Graniteville Granite displays beautiful feldspar crystals throughout, and the rounded boulder shapes result from spheroidal weathering of the original blocky joint pattern.
