Lewiston Levee Parkway

The Lewiston Levee Parkway stretches along the Snake River at the lowest elevation point in all of Idaho, roughly 710 feet above sea level, where the climate is mild enough to support plants and conditions more typical of the Pacific Northwest maritime zone than the surrounding high desert. The paved multi-use trail follows the top of a flood control levee providing unobstructed views across the wide Snake River toward Washington State on the opposite bank.

Lewiston sits at the confluence of two great rivers, and this trail offers a comfortable way to appreciate that geography while enjoying a remarkably temperate microclimate. Cherry trees and other fruit trees line portions of the route, and spring brings abundant wildflower bloom well ahead of anywhere else in Idaho. The river corridor hosts wintering bald eagles, year-round great blue herons, and white pelicans during migration. Jet boats and commercial grain barges navigate the Snake regularly, providing an interesting contrast between recreational and industrial river use. The trail connects park facilities to the city of Lewiston waterfront, making it as practical for commuters and joggers as for sightseers discovering this unique low-elevation Idaho landscape.
