The Ozark Trail extends 350 miles across Missouri's Ozark Highlands, and the section accessible from Johnson's Shut-Ins ventures into true Ozark backcountry. Narrow ridgelines with exposed dolomite glades alternate with sheltered hollows harboring ancient white oak and sugar maple. The trail passes through one of the least-developed sections of the Missouri Ozarks with no facilities and minimal signage beyond blue blazes on trees.
