Lake Claiborne Loop

The Lake Claiborne Loop circumnavigates portions of the shoreline of Lake Claiborne, a sprawling 6,400-acre reservoir in the Piney Hills region of north Louisiana. The lake was created in the 1930s and has since developed into one of the finest fishing destinations in the state, with outstanding populations of largemouth bass, catfish, and bream. The trail follows the water's edge through stands of loblolly and longleaf pine, offering repeated views across the wide open water.

Osprey are among the most dramatic wildlife sightings along this trail, regularly plunge-diving for fish in the shallower coves along the route. Bald eagles have nested near the lake in recent years, and great blue herons are a constant presence along the shoreline. The terrain is gentle with minimal elevation change, making the loop suitable for families and those seeking a relaxed nature walk. Picnic areas, boat ramps, and camping facilities are available throughout the park, making Lake Claiborne a versatile destination for multi-day recreation visits in the north Louisiana hills.
