The River Scene Trail follows the Meramec River bottomland through mature cottonwood, silver maple, and sycamore forest. The Meramec remains one of Missouri's cleanest rivers despite its proximity to the St. Louis metropolitan area, supporting populations of pallid sturgeon and other sensitive fish species. Great blue herons stalk the shallows throughout the year, and osprey fish the river during spring and fall migration.
