Corridor Trail

Corridor Trail connects the mountain section and river section of Pilot Mountain State Park, traversing a linear protected corridor of piedmont forest between the two distinct park units. This relatively long trail provides an immersive experience in piedmont ecology, passing through mature oak-hickory woodland, creek bottomlands, and open agricultural transition zones. The route descends from the mountain unit toward the Yadkin River section, offering a completely different character than the summit-oriented trails higher up. Wildlife is abundant along this quieter trail, with deer, wild turkey, and river otters reported near the Yadkin River end. The trail crosses several small tributary streams via stepping stones, making it potentially muddy after heavy rainfall. Birding is excellent throughout, particularly during spring migration when the mixed forest habitats attract warblers, vireos, and tanagers. The out-and-back nature of this trail means the return journey retraces the same route, so hikers experience both directions of the elevation change. Backpackers can use designated primitive campsites in the river section to turn this into an overnight trip. The $7 park fee applies. Carry sufficient water as no water sources are available along most of the corridor route.
