The East Summit Trail offers a longer and more forested approach to the summit of Pinnacle Mountain compared to the direct West Summit route. Beginning from the east trailhead near Maumelle Lake, this trail climbs through a rich hardwood forest of white oak, hickory, and shortleaf pine before emerging onto the rocky upper slopes of the mountain. The additional distance and forest cover make this route feel more like a wilderness hike and less like a technical scramble than the western approach.

The forest along the East Trail supports a diverse community of spring wildflowers including mayapple, wild ginger, bloodroot, and trillium that bloom sequentially from late February through April. The trail climbs steadily and gains elevation more gradually than the West Summit route, though the upper section still requires careful footing on the quartzite boulder fields near the summit. The views from the top are identical to those on the west approach: a full panorama of the Arkansas River Valley, Lake Maumelle, and the Little Rock skyline. Combining both trails into a loop over the summit is a popular option for those wanting a more complete mountain experience.
