Logan Creek drains a quiet hollow in the Sam A. Baker backcountry, offering a peaceful alternative to the busier main trail system. The creek runs clear and cold, fed by numerous springs seeping from the dolomite hillsides. Old-growth shortleaf pine - rare in Missouri after a century of logging - still grows on south-facing rocky slopes accessible from the trail. Collared lizards and fence lizards sun themselves on exposed rock outcrops in summer.
