Staunton Ranch Trail

Staunton Ranch Trail pays homage to the homesteading legacy that shaped this land for over a century before it became a state park in 2013. The 3.5-mile loop tours the historic Staunton Ranch property, passing through open meadows where the original homestead buildings and corrals once stood and offering views of the granite rock outcrops that dominate the park's visual character. The Frances Staunton family donated this land to Colorado with the explicit intention of preserving it as open space, and the trail connects visitors to that generous history.

The meadow sections offer excellent wildlife viewing, particularly for deer and elk that graze the open grasslands in early morning and evening. The granite outcrops scattered throughout the loop are climbable in places and provide elevated vantage points with views toward Mount Evans and the surrounding foothills terrain. Wildflowers are abundant in early summer, and the aspen groves turn brilliant yellow in late September. The modest elevation gain makes this loop suitable for most fitness levels while still delivering the mountain park atmosphere. Leashed dogs are welcome. The park entrance fee is $10 per vehicle, and the ranch trail serves as an accessible connector to more challenging routes deeper in the park.
