Wolf Rock Loop – Stone Mountain Sp
Wolf Rock Loop is a shorter alternative in Stone Mountain State Park that delivers boulder scrambling and panoramic overlooks without the full commitment of the longer summit trails. The route winds through a jumbled landscape of giant granite boulders, some the size of houses, that have tumbled from the main dome over millennia. Navigation requires some route-finding between boulders and a few short scrambles using hands and feet. Several overlook points offer excellent views of the main Stone Mountain dome from angles that reveal the true scale of this granite monolith. The surrounding forest is a mosaic of Virginia pine, red maple, and chestnut oak typical of dry piedmont ridges. The shorter distance makes this trail appropriate for families with older children who enjoy a bit of adventure without extreme exposure. Morning light from the east illuminates the granite face of Stone Mountain beautifully, making Wolf Rock one of the best spots in the park for photography. The loop is blazed with orange markers. As with all Stone Mountain State Park trails, a $7 vehicle fee is required. Dogs must be leashed at all times on park trails.
