Taughannock Point Trail

The Taughannock Point Trail offers a peaceful lakeside stroll along the shores of Lake Cayuga near the park marina, providing a serene counterpoint to the dramatic gorge experience elsewhere in the park. The flat loop winds through a picnic area and along the lake shore, offering unobstructed views across the water toward the rolling hills of the Finger Lakes wine region on the opposite shore. The marina harbors sailboats and motorboats throughout the summer season, adding a lively nautical element to the tranquil shoreline scenery. Birdwatching is rewarding along this trail, with ring-billed gulls, great blue herons, and various diving ducks commonly observed on and near the water. In autumn the surrounding hillsides erupt in brilliant foliage that reflects in the calm lake surface, creating mirror-like compositions beloved by photographers.
