The Bear Hair Gap Trail is Vogel State Park's signature loop hike—a strenuous climb through the southern Blue Ridge to the Appalachian Trail at Bear Hair Gap, with spectacular views of Blood Mountain (4,458 ft), the highest point on the Georgia AT. The trail climbs 800 feet via rocky switchbacks through chestnut oak and mountain laurel forest, reaching the AT junction at approximately 3,400 feet before looping back through a different drainage to the park below.

The section of the AT visible from Bear Hair Gap traverses the rocky spine of the Blue Ridge in both directions—south toward Neel Gap and north toward Blood Mountain—providing a tantalizing glimpse of the long-distance hiking corridor. Fall foliage in mid-October transforms the entire view from the gap into a tapestry of orange, red, and yellow. Mountain laurel blooms line the rocky sections in late May. The descent follows a creek drainage with several cascades over granite boulders, where brook trout hold in the cold pools. Lake Trahlyta, the park's mountain lake, comes into view in the final descent, framed by rhododendron. Black bears are year-round residents of the Vogel area and are regularly encountered on the trail.
