DuPont State Recreational Forest in Henderson County contains one of the finest concentrations of waterfalls anywhere in the Southeast. The Triple Falls loop links three dramatic cascades on the Little River — Hooker Falls, Triple Falls, and High Falls — on a well-maintained trail system ideal for all fitness levels. It's the hike that keeps appearing in those "best of" travel lists, and for once, the hype is fully deserved.

Trail Overview

The route begins at the Hooker Falls Access Area on Staton Road. The trail descends to Hooker Falls (12 feet wide, drop into a beautiful wading pool) and then follows the river upstream. A staircase leads to the first of Triple Falls' three cascades — the water steps down three distinct ledges in a broad amphitheater setting. The loop continues upriver to High Falls before returning via the ridge. Trail surfaces are gravel-packed or dirt and well-signed throughout.

The Three Waterfalls

Hooker Falls is wide, accessible, and ideal for swimming. Triple Falls is the showpiece — three tiers descending in quick succession, the middle tier being wide enough to walk behind. High Falls is the tallest of the three, a 120-foot cascade best viewed from the cliff-top overlook reached via a short spur trail.
