About Twin Falls

Twin Falls at Olallie State Park is one of the finest short waterfall hikes in the Seattle area. The trail descends into an old-growth gorge carved by the South Fork Snoqualmie River, where two waterfalls — an upper 50-foot plunge and a lower, wider cascade — roar through a narrow canyon of moss-covered basalt and ancient western red cedar.

A suspension bridge crossing the gorge provides a vertiginous view straight down the canyon and across to the upper falls. The contrast of the roaring water, the towering old-growth trees, and the volcanic basalt canyon walls is genuinely spectacular. The trail is well-maintained and the 2.6-mile round trip makes it accessible for families with older children.

Trail Highlights

  • Two distinct waterfalls on the South Fork Snoqualmie — upper plunge and wide lower cascade
  • Suspension bridge crossing the gorge with views straight down to the canyon floor
  • Old-growth western red cedar forest on the canyon walls
  • Close to Seattle — 45 minutes from downtown via I-90
  • Excellent year-round hiking with spectacular winter moss and ice conditions
