Best seasons: Spring and fall ideal; summit of the arch rewards with stunning Grand Wash canyon views. Named for Butch Cassidy who allegedly hid in Capitol Reef, Cassidy Arch spans 84 feet above Grand Wash. You can walk directly onto the arch for vertiginous canyon views.
Pack plenty of water — desert and high-altitude trails demand more hydration than you expect. Layers are essential above 10,000 feet.
